Francesco La Camera, director-general of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), highlighted Türkiye’s significant position in the geothermal energy sector during an interview with CNBC-e at the World Economic Forum in Davos.

Türkiye’s geothermal dominance

La Camera emphasized Türkiye’s prowess in geothermal energy, stating, “Türkiye is a superpower in geothermal energy. It is one of the leading places in renewable energy.”

Growth scale in renewable energy

Discussing the challenges in the renewable energy sector, La Camera noted, “The issue in renewable energy is not the growth rate, but more the scale of growth. Last year, $570 billion was invested; we need a little more than double this amount to meet the targets set in Paris.”

Halfway to renewable energy goals

La Camera reflected on the progress, saying, “We are halfway to our goals in renewable energy. We started last year with 470 GW and this year with 550 GW. We should be at 1000 GW.”
