Polat Enerji, a leading renewable energy company in Türkiye, has announced ambitious plans to significantly boost its installed capacity. Currently operating with 756.2 megawatts (MWs), the company aims to increase this capacity to 2,000 MW within the next five years.
CEO Cem Deniz highlighted the company’s commitment to expanding its renewable energy portfolio, with a particular focus on making the Soma Wind Energy Power Plant Europe’s seventh-largest Renewable Energy Source (RES) and the largest power plant in Europe.
Over the past decade, Türkiye’s share of renewable energy sources such as wind, solar, geothermal and hydroelectric in electricity production has increased from 29% to 42%, with expectations to reach 55% by 2035.
The target is for wind and solar energy to generate 34.2% of the electricity during this period. Polat Enerji, which produces clean energy from five wind and one solar power plant in Türkiye, plans to increase its renewable energy capacity by two to three times within five years. With a total installed capacity of 756.2 MW, the company’s wind energy capacity of 719.8 MW represents about 6.1% of Türkiye’s wind power capacity.
Last year, with an investment in capacity increase for the Goktepe RES in Yalova, the company raised its plant’s installed capacity to 121.1 MW. Additionally, Polat Enerji continues its investments with 30 MW of increased wind capacity and 46.6 MW of increased solar hybrid capacity in different plants this year.
Among its medium-term investment goals, the company plans to continue investments in Soma RES, Türkiye’s largest and Europe’s seventh-largest wind energy power plant with an installed capacity of 312.1 MW, aiming to make it the largest in Europe.
Deniz emphasized that it is currently leading in wind power capacity in Türkiye and plans a $1 billion investment in capacity expansion.
He also mentioned that the localization rate of wind turbines has reached 55%. Türkiye presents significant opportunities for renewable energy production and the domestic manufacturing industry in the renewable energy sector.
