Pegasus launches flights from Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen to Edinburgh
Flights from Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen Airport (ISG) to Edinburgh (EDI), the capital of Scotland, began on June 27.
This new international route aims to strengthen tourism, trade and cultural relations between Türkiye and Scotland.
Pegasus Airlines has introduced this new international route, operating twice a week on Thursdays and Sundays. The frequency is expected to increase to four times a week by the last week of July.
This new route marks the seventh international destination Pegasus Airlines has launched in 2024. Previously, routes were opened to Zagreb (ZAG) in Croatia, Sphinx (SPX) in Egypt, Aktau (SCO) in Kazakhstan, Sofia (SOF) in Bulgaria, Chisinau (KIV) in Moldova and Bratislava (BTS) in Slovakia.
With this development, ISG now connects to 164 destinations in 54 countries, comprising 40 domestic and 124 international routes.
ISG CEO Alp Er Tunga Ersoy commented on the new route’s launch, saying, “For Sabiha Gokcen, the United Kingdom has always been among the top five countries in terms of passenger numbers.”
“There are strong historical ties, economic relations and significant tourism partnerships between the two countries. Last year, Türkiye welcomed approximately 4 million tourists from the U.K,” Ersoy commented.
“With a trade volume of $19.5 billion in 2023, the U.K. is Türkiye’s fourth-largest export market. We expect this route to further strengthen the existing warm relations, increase cooperation opportunities, and bring an additional 21,000 international passengers to our airport this year,” he added.
Pegasus Airlines CEO Guliz Ozturk also expressed her enthusiasm about the new route: “We are delighted to advance our mission of enhancing Türkiye’s tourism potential by launching direct flights from Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen Airport to Edinburgh. As we expand our flight network, we continue to connect Turkey with other countries culturally and economically.”
