Marriott International, the U.S.-based hotel chain, is continuing its expansion in Türkiye. The company, which operates nearly 9,000 properties across 141 countries, plans to increase its presence in Türkiye by growing its hotel count from 59 to 70 by the end of 2025, with a long-term goal of reaching 100 properties according to Turkish media.

Why it matters

Marriott’s expansion in Türkiye reflects the country’s growing tourism and hospitality sector. The company’s investment in new hotels and brands will likely contribute to economic growth, create new job opportunities, and increase Türkiye’s appeal as a travel destination, particularly in the luxury and affordable accommodation sectors.

Details

  • Current portfolio: Sandeep Walia, the President of Marriott International’s Operations for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, stated that Marriott has been operating in Türkiye for over 40 years. With 59 properties and over 8,500 rooms across 10 cities, Marriott is well-established in the Turkish market.
  • Luxury and premium segments: Walia highlighted that Marriott’s portfolio in Türkiye is largely focused on premium brands, including Ritz-Carlton, St. Regis, The Luxury Collection, EDITION Hotels, and JW Marriott. These brands account for 20% of the company’s operations in the luxury segment in Türkiye.
  • Affordable accommodation demand: Walia noted a rising demand for affordable accommodation in the Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) region, with Marriott planning to meet this need in Türkiye through the Four Points Flex by Sheraton brand. This expansion will begin in cities like Bursa, Istanbul, and Antalya, with plans to extend to other cities.
  • Growth strategy: As part of its growth strategy in Türkiye, Marriott is actively seeking new investment and franchise opportunities to continue increasing its hotel portfolio, contributing to both the tourism and employment sectors in the country.
