Istanbul’s inflation sees modest rise in March, climbs to 46.23%

Consumer prices in Istanbul saw a slight monthly increase in March, rising by 3.79%, while the annual inflation rate climbed to 46.23%, the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce (ICOC) reported on Tuesday.
In comparison, February’s consumer prices rose by 3.19% on a monthly basis, with an annual inflation rate of 45.35%.
Meanwhile, wholesale prices increased by 2.30% in March. The year-on-year change stood at 33.17%, with the annual average change reaching 46.12%, according to ICOC data.
Categories with the highest price hikes
The ICOC attributed the inflation uptick in March to notable price increases in several categories, including alcoholic beverages and tobacco (7.31%), communications (4.50%), food and non-alcoholic beverages (4.22%), housing (3.59%), transportation (3.15%), miscellaneous goods and services (3.11%), and household goods (1.27%).
Conversely, prices in the restaurants and hotels category saw a modest decline of 0.06%.
Nationwide, Türkiye’s annual inflation continued to improve for the ninth consecutive month in February, easing to 39.05%, with a monthly increase of 2.27%, according to data from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat).
TurkStat is scheduled to release March’s official consumer price figures on Thursday, April 3.
