It was announced on Thursday that the Baghdad Metro Project has been awarded to a European-Turkish consortium that includes French companies Systra, SNCF and Alstom, Spanish companies Talgo and SENER and Turkish contractors. The consortium is sponsored by Deutsche Bank in Germany.

However, the identities of Turkish contractors were not disclosed.

According to a statement released by the Iraqi Prime Minister’s Media Office, the public-private partnership (PPP) initiative will be implemented as part of the design, build, operate, maintain, finance and transfer (DBOMFT) model.

The technical, financial and operational provisions of the contract will be finalized through negotiations between the Baghdad Municipality, the National Investment Commission (NIC), and the consortium starting in the upcoming weeks, according to the statement.

Seven metro lines, which span 150 kilometers and are served by 64 stations, are included in the Baghdad Metro project, which is anticipated to cost $17.5 billion.
