End of era in Türkiye: Former media giant Aydin Dogan sells last media group
Aydin Dogan, who once owned Türkiye’s largest media group with a vast political influence, decided to pull out from the media sector.
Dogan Burda Magazine Group, established as a joint venture between Türkiye’s Dogan Holding and the German Hubert Burda Media Group, has been sold to an investment fund group. According to the announcement on the Public Disclosure Platform by Dogan Burda, founded on July 21, 1988, the group has been sold for $10 million.
End of 45-year era
The sale marks the end of a 45-year era for Aydin Dogan, who previously sold Dogan Media Group to Demiroren Holding in 2018, completely withdrawing from the media sector.
Dogan Burda, Türkiye’s largest magazine group publishing 58 magazines, signifies Aydin Dogan and Dogan Holding’s exit from the media sector they entered four and a half decades ago.
Dogan: Media tycoon
Dogan, a prominent media figure, began his involvement in the sector in 1979 with the acquisition of Milliyet newspaper. Over the years, he expanded his media empire to include Hurriyet newspaper in 1994, as well as Kanal D and CNN Turk television channels, Posta, Fanatik and Radikal newspapers, alongside radio stations and magazines.
Dogan was a significant media tycoon in Türkiye, wielding influence in politics and maintaining close relationships with prime ministers and other high-level political figures seeking to establish favorable connections with him and his media group.
