Turkish auto market witnessed for the first time that electric vehicle sales surpassed diesel vehicle sales during 2024, Automotive Distributors and Mobility Association (ODMD) reports.

In December alone, fully electric vehicle sales surged by 91.3%, reaching 21,598 units and capturing a record market share of 16.0%. For the entire year, electric vehicle sales increased by 51.7%, totaling 99,849 units. This translated to a record 10.1% share of the passenger car market, compared to 65,562 units and a 6.8% market share in 2023.

Meanwhile, gasoline-powered vehicles held a 60.1% market share in 2024, hybrids 18.8%, and diesel cars fell below 10%, recording a share of just 9.8%.

Top 10 best-selling electric vehicle brands in Türkiye

Leading the EV market with over 30,000 units sold was Türkiye’s domestically produced Togg T10X, while BYD, which entered the market in December, managed to rank eighth.

Togg T10X emerged as Türkiye’s best-selling electric vehicle in 2024 despite competitors offering multiple models across various segments. With the launch of the Togg T10F in 2025, the brand will expand its model range to two.

Tesla ranked as the second-best-selling electric car brand in Türkiye in 2024, while BYD made an impressive debut on November 15, securing the eighth spot with just one month of sales in December.
