In 2021, Turkish seafood, frozen and canned food producer Dardanel expanded into the Greek and European markets by acquiring the Greek company Kallimanis.

The company’s latest move is the establishment of a sushi factory under the Kallimanis brand in Greece.

Dardanel, which has been operating since 1984 with factories in Canakkale and Istanbul, founded its subsidiary, Dardanel Greece, in 2021 and acquired Kallimanis.

Annual production of 15 million sushi units

The newly established factory, equipped with modern production technologies and covering 2,200 square meters, has an annual production capacity of 15 million sushi units.

In a statement today to the Public Disclosure Platform (KAP), the company announced that Kallimanis has opened its third factory in Greece and begun production.

Dardanel Greece commissioned the third factory it owns in Greece with the start of production of the sushi factory, which has been an underinvestment for the last year.

The 2200 m² factory is equipped with modern production technologies and has an annual production capacity of 15 million pieces of sushi. With the investment, which stands out as an important step in Dardanel’s growth strategy in international markets, a turnover of 50 million Euros is targeted with sales to both Greece and neighboring European countries.

Dardanel’s founder and Chairman, Niyazi Onen, commented on the development and said, “We are excited to add another investment to our portfolio in Greece. With the Sushida Kallimanis brand, we will offer our packaged sushi products to consumers in both Greece and neighboring countries.”

“The global sushi category is growing, and the growth potential is high. This investment will help us capture a larger share of the international market in the sushi category,” he added.
