BP’s withdrawal from Türkiye: Petrol Ofisi officially replaces British giant after March

British energy giant BP has officially withdrawn from the Turkish market after handing over its Turkish distribution subsidiary—which operates 770 retail fuel stations across the country—to Petrol Ofisi, the Turkish fuel distribution subsidiary of Dutch energy giant Vitol.
Petrol Ofisi officially acquired all rights and obligations of BP’s Turkish fuel retailer company following the completion of the merger process on Tuesday.
According to a statement from Petrol Ofisi, the merger was formally registered by the Istanbul Trade Registry Office on Feb. 28, finalizing the integration of BP Petrolleri AS under the Petrol Ofisi umbrella.
770 fuel stations to be rebranded
As of March 1, fuel stations previously operating under BP’s distribution network have transitioned to Petrol Ofisi’s distributor license.
Customers will continue to purchase fuel from stations branded under both the “BP” and “Petrol Ofisi” names without disruption.
The rebranding process for 770 BP-branded retail fuel stations is expected to be completed by Nov. 1, 2026.

Commenting on the acquisition, Petrol Ofisi Group CEO Mehmet Abbasoglu emphasized that BP’s integration into the group marks the beginning of a new era for both the company and the sector.
“We will expand projects that contribute to Türkiye’s energy security strategies,” Abbasoglu said, expressing gratitude to all employees, business partners, and regulatory authorities who played a role in the successful completion of the merger.
Founded in 1941 as a state-owned company, Petrol Ofisi was acquired by Vitol on Jul. 17, 2017, for €1.368 billion ($1.44 billion as of Mar. 3, 2025).
