100 ‘Turcorns’ by 2030: Türkiye opens first entrepreneurship office to boost startups

Türkiye’s first of 100 planned entrepreneurship offices, aimed at fostering new tech startups and achieving the goal of 100,000 technology enterprises and 100 Turcorns—Turkish startups valued at over $1 billion—was inaugurated Monday by Industry and Technology Minister Mehmet Fatih Kacir in Ankara.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the Bilkent Cyberpark Cybergo Entrepreneurship Office, Kacir emphasized that businesses are investing more in innovation to gain a competitive edge and that entrepreneurship plays a pivotal role in national development.
Kacir stated that technology entrepreneurship is at the heart of Türkiye’s “Century of Türkiye” vision, adding that the government is implementing multidimensional policies to foster and scale up new technology ventures.

Highlighting the significant role of research and development (R&D), Kacir noted that more than 1,600 R&D and design centers within companies are driving innovative projects. He also pointed out that the Scientific and Technological Research Institution of Türkiye’s (TUBITAK) BIGG Program, which supports early-stage startups, has facilitated the establishment of 2,490 technology ventures.

To enhance startups’ access to financing, Kacir explained that the government has mobilized ₺4.1 billion ($132 million) in public funds through investment and co-financing mechanisms. “With the multiplier effect of these funds, we have stimulated ₺88 billion ($2.8 billion) in total investment for startups,” he said.
He further noted that large-scale R&D and design centers, as well as tech park firms, are now required to allocate a portion of their incentives toward startups and venture capital funds.
“Our goal is to cultivate 100,000 technology startups and produce 100 Turcorns by 2030,” Kacir declared. “We have the potential to achieve this, and our roadmap is clear. We will continue launching strategic programs to accelerate our momentum in entrepreneurship.”
To further promote startup culture, 81 cities across Türkiye will host 100 new entrepreneurship offices, aiming to increase the number of startups from 4,300 to 10,000 in a short period, Kacir added.
