The development comes following a border blockade by Polish farmers that strained relations between the two allies

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced Wednesday his intention to urgently engage in discussions with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, following a border blockade by Polish farmers that strained relations between the two allies.

The scale of the protests by Polish farmers against Ukrainian-produced imports has taken Kyiv’s leaders by surprise, as they had relied on Warsaw and other Western allies for support against President Vladimir Putin’s aggressive actions.

In a direct message to Tusk through a video statement, Zelenskyy said: “I have instructed our government to travel to the border between our nations by Feb. 24… I am also prepared to join our government at the border.”

Apart from blockading border crossings, Polish farmers have also halted shipments of grain destined for Germany.

Notably, one tractor displayed a sign expressing support for Putin and his incursion, urging action against Ukraine, Brussels and their leaders.

The Polish foreign ministry has expressed “serious concern” regarding the anti-Ukrainian slogans observed at the farmers’ protests and has attributed the tensions to alleged collaboration with Russian elements.
