Galatasaray’s legendary goalkeeper Fernando Muslera will end his 13-year tenure with the club at the conclusion of this season according to Turkish media. He declined a one-year contract extension and intends to return to Uruguay, where he owns the football club Sportivo Bella Italia.

Muslera, who joined Galatasaray in 2011, holds the record for the most appearances by a foreign player at the club and has helped secure numerous trophies. His departure marks the close of an era for Galatasaray and Turkish football, where he is widely regarded as one of the greatest foreign acquisitions in league history.

Details

  • Farewell ceremony: Galatasaray plans a grand tribute to honor Muslera’s achievements, emphasizing his trophies and his influence on the club.
  • Search for a new keeper: Turkish goalkeeper Ugurcan Cakir and Eyupspor’s Berke Ozer are possible replacements. However, clauses granting Fenerbahce partial rights to Berke’s transfer could complicate negotiations.
  • Trophy haul: Since arriving for 6.75 million euros ($7.04 million), Muslera has won seven Super Lig titles, four Turkish Cups, and six Turkish Super Cups, totaling 17 trophies.
