Syrian interim government urges Iran to respect sovereignty
Esaad Hasan Shaybani, the Foreign Minister of the Syrian Interim Government, has called on Iran to respect Syria’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the will of its people.
In a post shared on his account on X, formerly known as Twitter, Shaybani urged Iranian authorities to reconsider their actions and statements regarding Syria.
“Iran must respect the will of the Syrian people, the country’s sovereignty, and territorial integrity,” Shaybani wrote. He warned Iran against “spreading chaos in Syria” and held Tehran accountable for the consequences of recent remarks.
The statement comes amid heightened tensions and growing concerns over Iran’s involvement in Syria. The Syrian Interim Government, which opposes the Assad regime, has repeatedly criticized external interference, emphasizing the importance of Syrian-led solutions to the ongoing conflict.
Iran has been a key supporter of the Assad regime throughout the Syrian civil war, a stance that has drawn criticism from opposition groups and international actors advocating for a peaceful resolution to the crisis. Shaybani’s remarks underline the continued discord over foreign influence in Syria’s affairs.
