Iran lifts ban on WhatsApp and Google Play after cyberspace council vote

Iran’s Supreme Council of Cyberspace voted unanimously on Tuesday to lift the ban on the popular messaging app WhatsApp and the Google Play store, according to state media reports.
The decision came during the council’s 104th meeting, attended by the heads of the three branches of government, ministers and other council members.
Discussions focused on revisiting the country’s internet restriction policies, particularly concerning widely used international platforms.
“The ban on WhatsApp and Google Play was removed by unanimous vote of the members of the Supreme Council of Cyberspace,” Iran’s official news agency IRNA reported.
