Support march for Palestine planned in Istanbul on January 1

A support march for Palestine will take place on January 1, 2025, in Istanbul, organized by the National Will Platform, which includes 308 civil society organizations (CSOs) in Türkiye. The rally, aimed at protesting the ongoing violence in Palestine, will be held at Istanbul’s Galata Bridge.
Members of the platform have called on the public to participate, under the slogans “Waking Up the World,” “Yesterday Hagia Sophia, Today Umayyad, Tomorrow Al-Aqsa,” and “A Sun is Rising.”
The rally comes amid continued violence in Gaza, which has been ongoing for 15 months. The platform highlighted that the world has witnessed what they described as the “extermination of a people.”
Yasin Samli, President of Istanbul Bar Association No. 2, also called for the gathering, condemning the situation in Gaza as a “humanitarian tragedy” and “genocide of modern times.”
Samli reminded that the bar had appealed to the International Criminal Court (ICC), which issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant.
He emphasized the importance of continuing these legal efforts, stating, “I believe this is a significant step in terms of international law. These efforts must continue to increase.”
