Argentine President Javier Milei has announced the launch of the “Argentina Nuclear Plan,” marking a pivotal shift in the nation’s energy strategy and aiming to boost its nuclear energy capacity with homegrown technology.

According to reports from national media, the plan will be developed using Argentina’s local technological expertise and carried out with support from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). The initiative seeks to strengthen the country’s energy security while ensuring the peaceful use of nuclear technology in compliance with international standards.

“This is an ambitious vision,” said Demian Reidal, President Milei’s chief advisor and project leader. “After decades of stagnation, nuclear energy is making a triumphant return. We will not only catch up in this race but aim to lead.”

Reidal emphasized that Argentine nuclear engineers would play a central role in the project, underscoring its significance. “This plan symbolizes Argentina’s commitment to making nuclear energy a cornerstone of the global energy future,” he said.

Argentina currently operates three nuclear power plants: Atucha I, Atucha II, and Embalse. The newly unveiled plan aims to build on this foundation by enhancing the nation’s technological independence and global standing in nuclear energy development.
