Besiktas suffers 2-1 defeat to Bodo/Glimt in Europa League
Besiktas suffered a 2-1 loss against Bodo/Glimt in the sixth matchday of the UEFA Europa League, hosted at Aspmyra Stadium in Norway on Thursday evening.
The defeat marks Besiktas’ fourth loss in the group stage, leaving the Turkish side with six points and slim hopes of advancing. In contrast, Bodo/Glimt celebrated their third win, climbing to 10 points and keeping their top-eight aspirations alive.
The game started with an early surge from Besiktas, as Gedson Fernandes struck in the 21st minute, giving the visitors a 1-0 lead. Bahtiyar Zaynutdinov’s run down the left wing set up Gedson for a precise finish inside the box.
However, Bodo/Glimt responded quickly. In the 37th minute, Zinckernagel equalized with a close-range effort after receiving the ball in the penalty area. Moments before halftime, the Norwegian side seized the lead when Björtuft volleyed home a deflected corner from Zinckernagel in the 43rd minute.
Besiktas had chances to level the match but struggled to capitalize. In the 26th minute, Rafa Silva found himself one-on-one with Bodo/Glimt’s goalkeeper, Nikita Haikin, but his lobbed effort was cleared off the line by a defender. Gedson Fernandes came close again in the 59th minute, but his angled shot was saved.
Besiktas made double substitutions in the 64th minute, bringing on Salih Ucan and Ernest Muci to bolster their attack, but the Norwegian defense held firm.
The loss leaves Besiktas needing a strong finish in their final group-stage game to keep their European campaign alive, while Bodo/Glimt remains well-positioned to advance.
