With the liberation of Aleppo, Hama, Homs and Damascus following the collapse of the Bashar al-Assad regime on Dec. 8, Turkish e-commerce platforms are experiencing an uptick in Syrians selling properties and cars.

One user on Sahibinden.com, a platform allowing the sale of properties, used vehicles and other second hand items wrote “emergency sale from a Syrian” trying to sell his 2008 VW Polo, while another seller wrote “emergency sale because I will go to Syria.”

Properties being sold are also being noticed. Yet no extensive data regarding the matter can currently be found.

There are currently roughly 3 million Syrians living in Türkiye and the recent political change in Syria has excited, encouraged many to potentially return. Nevertheless, experts have noted that it remains too soon to tell if the current situation is suitable for lasting return.
