Türkiye’s main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) Chairman Ozgur Ozel called for a comprehensive program to ensure the return of Syrians residing in Türkiye, following recent developments in Syria.

In a statement posted on social media, Ozel declared that the Assad regime’s authoritarian rule had ended, emphasizing the importance of establishing a transitional government that represents all Syrians.

He also advocated for a peaceful, democratic, and stable Syria.

‘Comprehensive plan must be implemented’

Ozel stressed Türkiye’s top priority: the safety and well-being of its citizens.

“Our primary concern regarding Syria is the security and peace of our citizens. A comprehensive plan must be immediately implemented to facilitate the return of Syrians who have been living in Türkiye under various statuses for years,” he said.

He also urged Syria’s allies to avoid the mistakes made in Iraq and Libya, calling for support in the formation of a democratic regime grounded in human rights and the rule of law after the creation of a transitional government.

After a period of relative calm, clashes between Assad regime forces and Syrian opposition groups reignited on Nov. 27 in rural areas west of Aleppo, a major city in northern Syria.

Over 10 days, opposition forces launched a lightning offensive, capturing key cities and then, on Sunday, the capital Damascus. The rapid advance, supported by defecting military units, led to the collapse of the Assad regime after 13 years of civil war.

By Sunday morning, the Assad regime had lost all control over the capital.

Meanwhile, in ‘Operation Dawn of Freedom’ launched on Dec. 1, the opposition Syrian National Army liberated the Tel Rifaat district center from the PKK/YPG terrorist organization in Aleppo’s rural areas.
