The 2024 Formula 1 season sees racing legends Michael Schumacher and Lewis Hamilton hold the record for most championship wins

As the 2024 season kicks off in Bahrain, Formula 1 legends Michael Schumacher and Lewis Hamilton remain tied for the most driver championship titles.

German Schumacher, who suffered a serious skiing accident in the French Alps on Dec. 29, 2013, carried the title of F1’s successful driver for many years with seven championships.

Lewis Hamilton, the British driver for Mercedes, secured his seventh Formula One World Championship at the 2020 Turkish Grand Prix, tying the record held by Michael Schumacher.

Behind Hamilton and Schumacher sits Argentinian Juan Manuel Fangio with five championships, followed by Frenchmen Alain Prost and German Sebastian Vettel, each with four titles.

In a separate feat, Hamilton also surpassed the record for most Grand Prix starts in Formula One history, having competed against 103 other drivers throughout his illustrious career.

Schumacher, imprisoned in Switzerland since September 2014, ranks second at 91.

The record for winning the most races in a season in Formula 1, the world’s most famous automobile sport, belongs to Max Verstappen.

However, Verstappen, who won 10 races in a row in 2023, also holds the record in this field.
