Denizbank confirmed that Hakan Ates, the bank’s CEO for the past 27 years, will step down from his position at the end of the year.

Rumors indicated that starting Jan. 1, Recep Bastug, the former CEO of Garanti BBVA, will take over as the new CEO of Denizbank.

In a farewell letter to all employees, Ates expressed his gratitude for the years spent at the bank, marking the end of an era. He will continue his career as a member of Denizbank’s Board of Directors.

Ates’s leadership has been pivotal in shaping the bank over nearly three decades, and his departure marks a significant change for the institution. Recep Bastug’s appointment signals the next phase of Denizbank’s leadership as the bank prepares for the future.

Denizbank’s statement confirms that the transition will take place smoothly, with Bastug assuming the CEO role starting January 1.
