As opposition forces intensify their advance in Syria, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan chaired a National Security Council (MGK) meeting on Thursday, where significant developments in Syria were discussed.

Following a three-hour session, the MGK issued a statement stressing the urgent need to safeguard civilian lives and property, while urging the Syrian regime to seek reconciliation with both its people and opposition groups.

The statement reiterated that the current situation in Syria underscores the importance of these measures.

The Council also received updates on Türkiye’s ongoing security operations against domestic and international terrorist threats, including groups such as the PKK/KCK-PYD/YPG, FETO, and Daes.

These operations, it was stated, continue with strong resolve and success.

Türkiye strongly supports Syria’s unity

Türkiye reaffirmed its unwavering support for Syria’s territorial integrity and unity, stressing its commitment to helping maintain the country’s sovereignty.

The statement also emphasized the need to prevent harm to civilians in Syria and reiterated calls for the regime to engage in reconciliation efforts.

Meanwhile, the Council reiterated that Türkiye will not allow terrorist organizations to exploit the instability in Syria and committed to neutralizing any threats to national security.

Regarding the cease-fire in Lebanon, the NSC hoped it would be permanent, stressing the importance of respecting international law and the resolutions of the U.N. Security Council in order to put an end to Israel’s unrestrained massacres and aggression.

The council also highlighted Türkiye’s determined stance towards a just and lasting solution to the Palestinian issue.
