Humanitarian aid from Türkiye’s Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) has arrived in Lebanon to assist those displaced by Israeli attacks in the country’s southern region.

The aid, which includes 36 shower and toilet units, was delivered to Beirut port on a cargo ship. The units will be provided to schools in Lebanon that are temporarily housing displaced people, particularly those forced to flee their homes due to the ongoing conflict in the south.

Türkiye and Lebanon strengthen solidarity

The handover ceremony of the aid was attended by Turkish Ambassador to Beirut Murat Lutem, Lebanese Environment Minister and Head of the Governmental Emergency Affairs Committee Nasr Yassin and General Secretary of the High Relief Commission Maj. Gen. Bassam Nabulsi.

During his speech, Ambassador Lutem emphasized Türkiye’s support for Lebanon in the face of Israeli aggression, stating, “Turkish state institutions and NGOs have mobilized to help our brotherly Lebanon. Through these efforts, we are trying to heal the wounds caused by the violence. Today, this belief has once again brought aid to Lebanon.”

Lutem also highlighted that the aid sent by AFAD will be used in southern Lebanon, where many displaced Lebanese families are being temporarily housed in schools. “Our support for the Lebanese people will continue,” he added.

Lebanon expresses gratitude for continued support

Yassin expressed gratitude to the Turkish government and President Recep Tayyip Erdogan for their ongoing support. He pointed out that this is not the first time Türkiye has sent aid to Lebanon, referencing previous shipments of food and medical supplies.

Yassin emphasized the importance of the 36 units, which will be distributed to educational centers in southern Lebanon under the coordination of the Lebanese Ministry of Education. “This aid is crucial for those displaced by the Israeli attacks in southern Lebanon,” he said.

He also praised Türkiye’s position against Israel‘s actions and expressed appreciation for the solidarity between the two countries.

Aid distribution and installation

Each of the 36 units, which can accommodate up to six people at a time, will be set up at 15 schools in various locations across southern Lebanon, including in the cities of Sidon and Tyre.

The installation will be coordinated by the Lebanese Ministry of Education and Higher Education.
