Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan held a phone conversation with Iraqi Prime Minister Muhammad Shia’ al-Sudani on Tuesday, focusing on regional stability, Syria’s territorial integrity, and ongoing security concerns linked to terrorism.

Syrian unity, territorial integrity emphasized

During the call, President Erdogan underscored Türkiye’s strong commitment to preserving Syria‘s unity and territorial integrity.

He noted that both Türkiye and Iraq share common ground on this issue and expressed the importance of supporting a political process to prevent the situation in Syria from worsening.

Erdogan also reiterated that Türkiye’s priority is to maintain stability beyond its borders and ensure that civilians do not suffer harm in conflict zones.

He highlighted that the ongoing instability in Syria requires concerted efforts to engage the Syrian regime in a meaningful political process aimed at resolving the crisis.

Efforts against terrorism, PKK/YPG terrorists

Additionally, President Erdogan stressed Türkiye’s ongoing efforts to combat the PKK/YPG terrorist organization and its affiliates, which seek to exploit the instability in the region for their own interests.

He emphasized that Türkiye would continue to take necessary steps to safeguard national security and prevent any threats emanating from these groups.
