A fugitive drug trafficker wanted by Turkmenistan for illegal drug smuggling has been apprehended in Ankara, Turkish authorities confirmed on Tuesday.

Fugitive arrested in Kecioren district

Aynabat Yegenova, a Turkmen national, was wanted by Turkmenistan’s judicial authorities for her involvement in illicit drug trafficking.

She had been placed on Interpol’s Red Notice list, a request to law enforcement worldwide to locate and provisionally arrest the individual pending extradition.

The arrest occurred following an operation by the Ankara Police Department’s Narcotics Crime Division.

The operation was conducted in the Kecioren district, a central area of the capital.

Yegenova was taken into custody as part of a coordinated investigation targeting international drug smuggling networks.

Authorities have yet to release further details on the specific nature of the operation or additional evidence seized during the arrest.
