Israeli forces’ major incursion into Ramallah leads to the death of a 16-year-old in a refugee camp amid escalating violence across the West Bank

During their most significant incursion into Ramallah in years, Israeli forces entered the Palestinians’ administrative capital in the occupied West Bank overnight, resulting in the death of a 16-year-old in a refugee camp, Palestinian sources reported Monday.

Witnesses in Ramallah described a significant Israeli military presence in the city, which serves as the headquarters for the Palestinian Authority led by President Mahmoud Abbas.

The Palestinian health ministry confirmed Israeli forces shot and killed 16-year-old Mustafa Abu Shalbak during the raid on Am’ari refugee camp.

According to the Palestinian news agency WAFA, clashes erupted as Israeli forces entered the camp, leading to the use of live ammunition against Palestinian youths. Abu Shalbak sustained injuries to the neck and chest during the confrontation.

Violence has escalated throughout the West Bank alongside the conflict in Gaza, resulting in the deaths of at least 400 Palestinians in clashes with Israeli soldiers and settlers. Israeli forces have been conducting regular raids in Palestinian areas across the territory occupied since 1967.

In a separate incident, witnesses reported Israeli forces damaged a main road in the West Bank city of Tulkarm during another raid.

WAFA also stated that Israeli forces entered the city of Nablus in the West Bank, where they demolished the home of an individual previously accused by Israel of involvement in an attack that killed a British-Israeli mother and her two daughters in April.

Overnight raids across the West Bank resulted in the detention of at least 55 Palestinians, as reported by The Palestinian Prisoners Club.

Ramadan meeting cancelled

The Israeli Broadcasting Corporation indicated that a meeting among senior Israeli officials to discuss security measures for Ramadan preparations was canceled because of Prime Minister Netanyahu’s illness.

The meeting, which was expected to include discussions with Minister Ben-Gvir and officials from the Israeli Security Agency (Shin Bet) and the army, was centered on potential restrictions at Al-Aqsa Mosque during the Muslim holy month.
