The Guinness World Records places Maria Branyas Morera as the 12th oldest verified living person

Maria Branyas Morera, the world’s oldest living person, celebrated her 117th birthday Monday in Catalonia, Spain, adding another chapter to her extraordinary life.

Born in San Francisco in 1907 to Catalan parents, she faced challenges, including deafness and the loss of her father during a transatlantic journey.

Guinness World Records recognized her as the oldest living person in January 2023.

Despite hearing and mobility issues, Branyas remains in good health, residing in the same nursing home for the past 23 years.

Researchers study her for insights into longevity. She attributes her long life to factors like family connections, nature, emotional stability, positivity and steering clear of toxic influences.

The Guinness World Records places her as the 12th oldest verified living person.

If she continues to live another year, she will ascend to the fifth position.
