Besiktas announced the departure of Dutch manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst on Monday, following a string of disappointing results and underwhelming performances. The decision was confirmed by club president Huseyin Yucel in a written statement.

Van Bronckhorst, a coach with a celebrated career, failed to meet expectations during his tenure, prompting action from the club’s board. “He is a highly accomplished coach, but the poor results and failure to display the expected performance compelled us to make this decision,” Yucel said. “We thank him and his team for their efforts.”

Serdar Topraktepe will take over as interim manager of the senior team, with Yucel expressing confidence in his abilities.

This development comes after a recent leadership transition at Besiktas, with Yucel stepping in as president following the unexpected resignation of Hasan Arat. In his statement, Yucel emphasized the board’s commitment to the club’s future.

“After Mr. Hasan Arat’s unexpected resignation, we took over the responsibility to show that Besiktas is not without leadership,” Yucel stated. “It would have been the easiest option to resign as well, but Besiktas has both financial and moral obligations. We are here to fulfill them.”

Yucel also called for unity among fans and stakeholders, urging the community to prioritize the club’s interests over personal disputes.

Yucel voiced confidence in all teams across the club’s various sports branches, expressing optimism about Besiktas’s ability to overcome its challenges.

“Nothing is lost. From now on, the focus must be solely on Besiktas. Personal debates do no good for the club,” he stated. “Our fans and community must stand by us as we work to restore Besiktas to its rightful place. Unity and togetherness are our greatest strengths.”
