Trustee appointed in Van’s Bahcesaray Municipality amid efforts against PKK terror group links
Ayvaz Hazir, the mayor of Bahcesaray district in Van from the Kurdish-oriented Peoples’ Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party), has been dismissed from his position by the Ministry of Interior. In his place, Bahcesaray District Governor Harun Arslanargun has been appointed as a trustee.
Interior Ministry confirmed the appointment of a trustee to Bahcesaray Municipality, governed by the DEM Party, and the removal of Hazir from office.
Demonstration ban for 10 days
The Van Governorship also announced that all demonstrations and public events in the city would be banned for the next 10 days.
This move is part of a broader effort by the Interior Ministry to target municipalities with links to the PKK terrorist organization. In recent months, the ministry has appointed trustees in several cities and districts, including Bahcesaray.
In its official statement, the minstry emphasized that the trustee appointment aims to ensure stability and governance in the region.
