Yunus Emre Institute elevates Turkish as top language choice in Indonesia

Following the efforts of Yunus Emre Institute Jakarta, Turkish language will be offered as an elective to 9,000 students in 12 schools in Indonesia

Yunus Emre Institute Jakarta is expanding its reach across Indonesia by offering Turkish language programs. This initiative strengthens its collaboration with prestigious educational institutions, both public and private. Starting this year, 12 prominent schools in Jakarta will offer Turkish language as an elective to a total of 9,000 students.

“My Choice is Turkish Project” will introduce important elements of Turkish culture, helping Indonesian youth learn more about  Türkiye and the Turkish language. 

Cemal Sahin, director of Yunus Emre Institute Jakarta, stated that their goal this year is to establish Turkish as the primary language of choice in primary and secondary education institutions throughout Indonesia.

Sahin stated that Indonesian society has shown incredible interest in Türkiye and Turkish culture. He emphasized that the Yunus Emre Institute is actively responding to this interest by introducing new activities daily. Sahin also expressed gratitude to Ambassador professor Talip Kucukcan for his support in this endeavor.

Sahin emphasized that among the most important reasons for the Indonesian society’s intense interest in Turkish and Turkish culture are Ottoman-Indonesian relations, increasing political and economic relations and Turkish TV series.

Emphasizing the rising demand for Turkish language learning in Indonesia, Ambassador Sahin announced plans to establish “Turkish Corners” in prominent universities and government institutions. This initiative aims to cater to the growing interest in Turkish not just within primary and secondary schools, but also among higher education and public sector entities.
