On Monday, Greek newspaper Ethnos reported that Türkiye made four significant geopolitical maneuvers in February.
Ethnos reported that Türkiye made notable strides in February, particularly in its relations with Egypt. It signed agreements with Somalia and Djibouti, unveiled the Turkish combat aircraft KAAN, and announced plans to establish a UAV-SIHA base in Gecitkale, Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).
The news highlighted that these actions by Türkiye have paved the way for increased engagement in the Eastern Mediterranean and Africa. The strategic move in Gecitkale signals a significant shift, indicating a more adaptable and dynamic approach from Türkiye.
Gecitkale is critical to Türkiye’s energy initiatives and drilling operations. Establishing this base structure signifies a mechanism for exerting control over maritime areas via airspace management.
This base holds significant strategic value for Türkiye, as it enables the monitoring and protection of Türkiye’s continental shelf in the northern regions of Syria, Libya, and Egypt through the use of unmanned aerial vehicles.
Türkiye’s recent actions in Africa were characterized as filling the void left by France in the region. This strategic maneuver, described as a “checkmate” move, aligns with the long-term strategy devised by Minister of Foreign Affairs Hakan Fidan over the past decade.
The news also touched upon the agreements signed by Türkiye with Somalia and Djibouti. It emphasized that within this framework, the Turkish naval force has gained a stable presence in the Red Sea, the Gulf of Aden and the Persian Gulf.
