Turkish uni student brutally assaulted, suspect walks free under judicial control
A 19-year-old university student, S.A., endured hours of abuse and threats from her boyfriend, Huseyin S. after she tried to end their relationship in Konya, Türkiye.
Despite admitting his actions in a message, the suspect was released under judicial control, sparking criticism of the legal system’s handling of violence against women.
Survivor’s account reveals terrifying threats and relentless violence
On Nov. 23, Huseyin S., aged 24, contacted S.A. repeatedly, persuading her to meet him. He arrived at her dormitory with a friend, Bayram T., and took her to a cafe and later a nightclub.
S.A. described how events escalated when Huseyin S. told her, “I have a surprise for you. I’m going to beat you to death.” She tried to leave, but he dismissed the threat as a joke.
After leaving the nightclub, the situation turned violent. In the car, Huseyin S. began beating S.A. until she lost consciousness. She later woke up at his residence, where the violence continued.
S.A. recalled, “I woke up in his house, and I was only wearing my underwear. When I asked for my clothes, Bayram T. held my arms while Huseyin S. kept hitting me. He said, ‘Didn’t I tell you I would beat you to death today?'”
Throughout the night, Huseyin S. mocked S.A. and made chilling remarks. At one point, he called a friend and said, “We have a funeral today. It’s S.A.’s. Prepare a grave.”
Despite victim’s evidence, suspect released under judicial control
After the ordeal, Huseyin S. dropped S.A. near her dormitory in the morning. Before leaving, he warned her against reporting him, saying, “Nobody can touch me. I’ll say you stole $1,000 from my car, and that’s why I hit you.”
S.A. immediately sought medical attention and filed a complaint with the police. She provided a medical report documenting her injuries, blood-stained clothing, and text messages from Huseyin S. admitting his guilt as evidence.
Her lawyers, Muhammet Cagri Turk and Furkan Avci, stated, “The suspect committed multiple crimes, including assault, theft, unlawful detention, threats, and sexual harassment. In his messages, he expressed regret and admitted his crime.”
Despite this, authorities released Huseyin S. under judicial control. The decision has drawn widespread condemnation, with critics questioning how such a serious case could result in the suspect’s release despite judicial control.
