Türkiye’s Defense Minister Yasar Guler confirmed that recent military operations in northern Iraq have successfully targeted terrorist groups, including the PKK/YPG and Daesh.

Key achievements in Iraq’s Zap region

In a recent update, Minister Guler highlighted significant progress in the Zap region, where Turkish forces have successfully “locked” a key area following intense military operations.

The minister emphasized that these efforts are part of Türkiye’s ongoing strategy to conduct “continuous and comprehensive” operations against terror groups. He stated that since the beginning of the year, over 2,500 terrorists have been eliminated in various operations across northern Iraq.

“The heroic Turkish soldiers’ dedication and effort have led to the successful closure of a key point in Zap,” Guler said. “Our activities in the region will continue with the same pace and determination.”

Enhanced bilateral security cooperation with Iraq

Türkiye is also strengthening its security ties with Iraq through the implementation of a new security cooperation agreement. The bilateral protocol aims to enhance efforts in combating terrorism, particularly along the Iraqi-Turkish border.

According to Minister Guler, this cooperation includes direct collaboration with the Iraqi government and the Iraqi Kurdish Regional Government (KRG) to address security concerns in the region.

“With the security cooperation agreement and steps outlined in our mutual protocol, we are taking concrete actions to ensure stability and end the presence of terrorist organizations in the region,” he added.
