An explosion occurred at the Tupras refinery in Izmir’s Aliaga district around 8:00 PM local time on Monday.

The explosion reportedly took place in the crude oil furnace of Tupras refinery, although authorities have not yet released information about the condition of the workers. A fire, visible from areas near the refinery, is still ongoing.

No injuries reported

There have been no reported injuries from the explosion. Emergency response teams from Izmir Municipality have arrived to combat the fire, and cooling efforts are underway. Subcontracted workers were seen waiting outside the refinery following the blast.

Fire under control, says Tupras

In a statement, Tupras announced, “A fire occurred in one of our crude oil units at the Izmir refinery around 8:00 PM local time. The unit was shut down, and our technical teams, in cooperation with official units, brought the fire under control and extinguished it. No employees were affected. Our operations continue in other units.”
