Far-right minister storms Al-Aqsa Mosque
In a written statement from the Jerusalem Council for Endowments and Islamic Affairs, it was noted that the far-right National Security Minister, Ben Gvir, led the raid under heavy police protection.
The Palestinian news agency WAFA reported that a large number of fanatic Jewish settlers raided the Al-Aqsa Mosque.
It was pointed out that before the raid, the Israeli police increased their intensive deployment at the gates of the Al-Aqsa Mosque.
It was stated that Muslims wishing to worship within the scope of given measures were restricted from entering the mosque.
The status quo of Al-Aqsa Mosque
Under the Wadi Araba Agreement signed with Israel in 1994, Jordan is recognized as the country responsible for religious affairs in Jerusalem.
According to the agreement signed in 2013 between Jordan’s King Abdullah II and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, Jordan was also granted the right of guardianship and defense of Jerusalem and its holy sites.
According to the agreement, Al-Aqsa Mosque is under the auspices of the Jerusalem Islamic Endowments Authority, which falls under the Jordanian Ministry of Endowments, Islamic Affairs, and Sanctity.
Jews, who previously visited Al-Aqsa Mosque with the permission of the Jerusalem Islamic Endowments Authority, have been entering the Muslim holy shrine under police escort since 2003, as part of Israel’s unilateral decision to violate the sovereignty of the Endowments Authority.
The Israeli administration maintains that the historical status quo, “where only Muslims can worship at Al-Aqsa Mosque and members of other religions can only visit,” is preserved.
However, fanatical Jewish settlers are frequently caught on camera praying and performing religious rituals during their raids on Al-Aqsa under the protection of Israeli police.
