Turkish VP Yilmaz meets Somalia’s Defense Minister Nur in Ankara
Turkish Vice President Cevdet Yilmaz held talks with Somalia Defense Minister Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur at the Presidential Complex in Ankara.
The meeting focused on enhancing bilateral cooperation in defense and counterterrorism efforts, as well as discussing regional developments.
Expanding economic and humanitarian collaboration
During the meeting, both officials highlighted ongoing joint efforts in trade, energy, and humanitarian initiatives aimed at supporting Somalia‘s development. Türkiye’s contributions to Somalia’s health and humanitarian sectors were also reviewed.
Vice president’s statement on Türkiye-Somalia relations
Following the meeting, Yilmaz shared his remarks on social media, expressing satisfaction with the evolving relationship between the two nations.
“We are pleased to see our strategic partnership with Somalia continue to grow across all fields. Türkiye will maintain its dedicated efforts to contribute to the well-being and prosperity of the Somali people through all our institutions,” he said.
Yılmaz also extended his wishes for peace and stability in Somaliland, commending the recent peaceful elections.
Nur also published a statement on social media platform X and said, “I would like to express my most sincere gratitude to the esteemed Vice President of our friendly and brotherly country, the Republic of Türkiye, Mr. Cevdet Yilmaz, for his kind reception and hospitality.”
“During our meeting, I expressed my gratitude to the Republic of Türkiye for their valuable support for peace and security in Somalia, in particular, and East Africa in general. We will continue to work with determination to further develop the strong relations between Somalia and Türkiye in every field and to further strengthen our brotherly ties,” Nur added.
