Severe winds and storms have caused widespread disruptions to sea transportation in the Marmara Sea, leading to the temporary suspension of ferry services in Istanbul and surrounding areas.

Due to adverse weather, several ferry routes operated by public and private companies, including City Lines, Istanbul Sea Buses (IDO) and GESTAS, have been temporarily suspended.

  • City Lines is the main public ferry service in Istanbul, operated by the municipality. It connects key locations within the city, including routes to the islands and across the Bosphorus.
  • Istanbul Sea Buses (IDO) is a private ferry company that operates not only within Istanbul but also in nearby coastal cities such as Yalova and Bursa.
  • GESTAS is a ferry company that provides service in the Canakkale region, including ferries across the Canakkale Strait and to nearby islands.

Istanbul ferry cancellations due to weather

  • City Lines announced the suspension of services on the following routes until further notice:
    • Bostanci-Moda-Karakoy-Kabatas
    • Buyukada-Sedef Adasi
    • Maltepe-Buyukada-Heybeliada-Burgazada-Kinaliada
    • Adalar-Besiktas
    • Tuzla-Pendik-Buyukada
  • IDO reported the cancellation of several ferry services, including:
    • 8:00 a.m. Pendik-Yalova
    • 08:30 a.m. Bursa-Armutlu Tatil Koyu-Yenikapi-Kadikoy
    • 09:05 a.m. Kabatas-Kadikoy-Yenikapi-Bursa
    • 12:30 p.m. Bursa-Armutlu-Yenikapi-Kadiko.
  • Additionally, the Asiyan-Uskudar and Asiyan-Anadolu Hisari-Kucuksu-Asiyan Ring services have been canceled. Alternative ferry routes are operating on the Bebek-Uskudar and Bebek-Kucuksu-Anadolu Hisari-Bebek lines.

Canakkale

In the Canakkale Strait, GESTAS announced the cancellation of several ferry services because of severe weather.

  • The Canakkale-Eceabat line is operating on a limited schedule, with departures from Eceabat at 9:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m., and 1:00 p.m. and from Canakkale at 8:00 a.m., 10:00 a.m., and 12:00 p.m.
  • The Canakkale-Kilitbahir line is also running with reduced service, with departures from Kilitbahir at 10:00 and 12:00 p.m. and from Canakkale at 9:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m., and 1:00 p.m.

Travel advisory

Passengers are advised to stay updated on new schedules and service changes to avoid inconvenience. Both City Lines and GESTAS have assured passengers that services will resume once the weather conditions improve.

Canakkale Strait ferry rervices resume

Ferry services on the Canakkale Strait route, which were canceled due to the prevailing strong winds, have resumed.

GESTAS AS, the company providing transportation on the Canakkale Strait and islands route, announced that the canceled ferry services on the Canakkale-Kilitbahir route would resume at 12:30 p.m., and services on the Canakkale-Eceabat route would start again at 1:00 p.m., operating according to the schedule.

It was also noted that the services on the Lapseki-Gelibolu route would continue without a fixed schedule.
