Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan plans to present a proposal for a cease-fire along the current frontlines of the Ukraine conflict during the upcoming G-20 summit in Brazil, Bloomberg reported, citing anonymous sources.
“President Erdogan set to present his proposal to freeze the conflict on current lines when Group of 20 leaders meet in Rio de Janeiro,” the report said.
Erdogan’s proposal includes demilitarized zone and NATO concession
According to sources, Erdogan’s plan includes the creation of a “demilitarized zone” in eastern Donbas and suggests deploying “international forces” as a security guarantee for Ukraine.
As part of the initiative, Türkiye is expected to propose that Kyiv delay its bid to join NATO for at least 10 years, a move seen as a concession to Russia. In exchange, Ukraine would receive military aid assurances.
Türkiye’s focus on Ukraine-Russia conflict resolution
A diplomatic source told Russian media outlet RIA Novosti that resolving the Ukraine conflict remains a top priority for Erdogan’s discussions with global leaders, including at the G-20.
The source also emphasized that Türkiye‘s main objective is to achieve a sustainable cease-fire and to end the ongoing bloodshed.
