The main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) is organizing a meeting with labor unions to discuss minimum wage demands.

Stating that they will also discuss the minimum wage issue at this meeting, CHP Deputy Chairwoman Gamze Tascier said, “We have proposed that the minimum wage should be ₺30,000 ($871.61), but this is not enough. We say that there should be a wage policy that will prevent the minimum wage from becoming a general wage in Türkiye. Currently, 60% of employees are working for minimum wage.

We will talk about how to make a wage policy worthy of human dignity, how to reflect the share of growth in the country to wages, and at the end we will share a final declaration that will also be included in our party program.”

Stating that the results of this workshop will also be included in the new party program, which will outline the policies the CHP plans to implement in its government, Tascier said, “We will prepare a detailed party report. This will be one of the steps taken by the CHP within the scope of the party program. We will talk about how to make a wage policy worthy of human dignity.”

Tascier also said that they will discuss with union representatives how to bring a fairer structure to the Minimum Wage Determination Commission and how to change tax brackets.

Tascier also stated that they will discuss what they can do to reflect growth shares to wage increases and said, “We should propose a system that can give wage earners a share from the growth share, not a raise according to the inflation target.”
