Residents of Türkiye’s Sinop, known for its extended fasting duration, eagerly await iftar on the beaches

According to calculations by the Supreme Council of Religious Affairs of the Presidency of Religious Affairs, in Sinop, one of the six cities experiencing fasts lasting up to 13 hours and 23 minutes, citizens eagerly anticipate iftar while spending time on the beaches.

During Ramadan, excitement fills Sinop, along with other cities like Artvin, Kastamonu, Kirklareli, Samsun, and Zonguldak, where the fasting duration reaches up to 13 hours and 23 minutes.

In the city, where air temperatures are above seasonal norms, some citizens spend their time on the beach, enjoying the beautiful weather.

While some citizens walk on the beach with their pets, others spend time in parks with their children.

Bayram Beser, 76, who waits for Iftar by walking on the beach, told the Anadolu Agency correspondent that fasting gives him peace. He was happy, stating that extended fasting did not affect him. Beser said, “We used to work in the fields and stack tobacco while fasting. Now, we have no work, so we are more comfortable in that respect. We will keep the fast, whether it is long or short. We will fulfill God’s command.”

Huseyin Emre Bektas, 19, while walking on the beach with his friends said that they spent most of their time at school with their friends.

Describing the weather as delightful, Bektas remarked, “In the summer, we felt thirsty a bit because we played basketball with our friends during lunch or breaks between classes. Now, even though the days are longer again, we don’t experience thirst. We’re grateful to be among those fasting the longest.”

Sitting on the beach and awaiting iftar time, 65-year-old Necati Yasar shared that he maintained his fast while relishing the sea and the sun, also expressing the contentment of fasting for an extended period.
