4.9 magnitude earthquake strikes Turkish city, Malatya
A 4.9 magnitude earthquake struck the Dogansehir district of Malatya on Friday morning, according to the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD).
The tremor was recorded at 10:46 a.m., with a depth of 7 kilometers.
Tremors felt in surrounding provinces
The quake, with its epicenter in Dogansehir, was felt across Malatya and neighboring provinces. AFAD reported that the seismic activity occurred at a shallow depth, increasing the likelihood of it being felt in a wider area.
There have been no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
Malatya Governor Seddar Yavuz said on social media, “I extend my well-wishes to all residents affected by the earthquake in our province. So far, no negative reports have been received.”
Dogansehir Mayor Mehmet Bayram stated that teams are continuing field assessments following the 4.9 magnitude earthquake, adding that no issues have been reported to them.
Adiyaman Governor Osman Varol noted in a written statement that the quake was also felt in their province, but no adverse reports have been received so far.
