Türkiye calls for lasting peace, stability in Libya
Türkiye continues to support efforts aimed at ensuring Libya’s political unity, territorial integrity, and lasting peace, according to sources from the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs speaking to Turkish media outlet TRT.
Türkiye’s commitment to Libya’s stability
Türkiye remains committed to a policy based on principles, focusing on institutions rather than individual figures in Libya. The Turkish approach encompasses the entire nation, addressing Libya’s Western, Eastern, and Southern regions as a whole.
Turkish officials have maintained contact with all factions in Libya through international meetings, bilateral visits and events hosted in Türkiye.
The reopening of Türkiye’s Consulate General in Benghazi has also facilitated broader engagement, enabling multi-faceted cooperation in areas ranging from security to energy and trade.
Efforts toward reconciliation, political progress in Libya
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized Türkiye’s ongoing commitment to resolving disputes in Libya through dialogue and reconciliation. The ministry underscored its intention to continue fostering calm, building trust, and contributing to a political process aimed at holding elections.
“As we have done so far, we will continue to contribute to the advancement of the political process in brotherly Libya, which aims to resolve conflicts based on consensus, preserve calm, build confidence, and advance elections.” The Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated.
“To this end, we will continue to engage with all Libyan stakeholders and strive to find a common ground that prioritizes Libya’s prosperity and well-being,” the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs added.
“Türkiye will maintain its efforts to meet with all Libyan parties and work towards a common ground that prioritizes Libya’s well-being and stability,” the statement read.
Turkish Ambassador confirms consulate opening
According to a Libyan media outlet source, Türkiye’s Ambassador to Libya, Guven Begec, has announced that Türkiye will soon open a consulate in Benghazi and is actively working on resuming Turkish Airlines flights to the city.
The statement came after Ambassador Begec met with Saqr Boujwari, the head of Benghazi’s Municipal Council, marking a significant step in Turkish-Libyan relations.
Besides discussing the consulate and airline plans, the two sides explored areas of cooperation, including the restoration of historical buildings, infrastructure projects and opportunities for Turkish expertise to aid in human resource development for Benghazi.
