President Erdogan, UK’s Starmer discuss bilateral relations, regional conflicts at COP29
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan met with U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer on Tuesday in Baku during the U.N. Climate Change Conference (COP29).
The meeting reportedly focused on enhancing bilateral ties between Türkiye and the U.K. and addressing key regional and global issues, according to a statement from Türkiye’s Communication Directorate.
Strengthening bilateral ties, trade
During the talks, Turkish President Erdogan emphasized Türkiye’s commitment to strengthening relations with the United Kingdom, focusing particularly on increasing trade volume between the two nations.
He noted ongoing efforts to develop economic cooperation and foster deeper bilateral ties.
Regional conflict resolution efforts
President Erdogan also highlighted Türkiye’s active role in seeking peaceful resolutions to regional conflicts, specifically mentioning Ukraine, Palestine and Lebanon.
The Turkish leader underscored the importance of diplomacy and continued international collaboration to bring stability to these areas.
High-level delegation attends meeting
The meeting was attended by Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and officials from Türkiye’s Communications Directorate.
The discussions took place on the sidelines of the COP29 World Leaders Summit, where global leaders are convening to address urgent climate issues and promote actionable commitments for environmental sustainability.
