Mike Gerner Larsen, a Danish national wanted internationally for drug trafficking under an Interpol Red Notice, was arrested in Istanbul during ‘Kuyu-38’ operations.

The coordinated effort involved the Istanbul Provincial Police Department, along with Interpol-Europol Department and the Directorate of Immigration Management.

Details of the operation

Larsen, accused of smuggling cocaine extensively to Denmark, was located and captured in the Basaksehir disctrict of Istanbul.

The arrest was part of joint effort by the Narcotics, Intelligence and Migrant Smuggling and Border Gates Branch Directorates. Authorities reported that Larsen, operated with accomplices to traffic cocaine into Denmark.

Interpol Red Notice and international cooperation

Larsen had been the subject of an Interpol Red Notice, issued by Danish authorities, for his alleged involvement in extensive cocaine trafficking. Turkish Interior Ministry announced it with a statement on X.

“No matter what bulletin they are sought under, we will not allow the international organized crime organizations and drug dealers who disturb the peace of our people to open their eyes. We will catch them all one by one and bring them to justice,” Turkish Interior Ministry statement said.

“We congratulate our Interpol-Europol Department and Migration Management Directorate and our Heroic Police Officers who carried out the operations,” Interior Ministry statement added.
