Satellite images show Israel building a road in demilitarized zone in Syria

Recent satellite imagery analyzed by the Associated Press reveals that Israel has initiated construction along the Alpha Line, the demilitarized zone separating the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights from Syria. The images indicate the laying of asphalt for a road adjacent to the border.

The United Nations has confirmed that Israeli forces entered the demilitarized zone during this construction, a move that contravenes existing ceasefire agreements governing the area.

This activity intensified in late September, following the Israeli army’s development of new roads and the establishment of a buffer zone along the Gaza Strip’s border with Israel, as earlier satellite photos have shown.

Additionally, Israel has commenced the demolition of villages in southern Lebanon, areas where United Nations peacekeepers have reportedly come under fire.

To date, the Alpha Line has remained relatively peaceful, with UN peacekeepers patrolling the zone since 1974. Israeli authorities have not issued statements regarding these recent developments.
