Türkiye to investigate 37 municipalities of Kurdish-oriented DEM Party
Türkiye is preparing to investigate some 37 municipalities controlled by the Kurdish-oriented Peoples’ Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party), according to the Middle East Eye.
DEM Party had secured some 82 municipalities following the March 2024 local elections.
Four municipalities, Batman, Esenyurt, Halfeti and Mardin, had their mayors replaced earlier this month by government-appointed trustees.
Istanbul’s Esenyurt district mayor ran as a member of the main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP), yet was a joint candidate with the DEM Party.
