Australia’s ambassador to the United States, Kevin Rudd, has removed a series of critical social media posts about former President Donald Trump after his recent election victory. Rudd, who served as Australia’s centre-left prime minister, had previously used the platform X (formerly Twitter) to call Trump “destructive” and a “traitor to the West.”

A spokesperson from Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs confirmed Thursday that the posts had been deleted. The spokesperson explained that the decision was made to “eliminate the possibility of such comments being misconstrued.”

In addition, the official reiterated that Rudd was committed to fostering positive relations with the incoming administration. “Ambassador Rudd looks forward to working with President Trump and his team to continue strengthening the US-Australia alliance,” the official said at a parliamentary hearing.
