In a vibrant display of cultural unity and religious observance, Turkish and Russian citizens gathered for the traditional Turkiye Evening iftar event on Thursday, held annually in front of the Memorial Mosque at Victory Park in Russia’s Moscow.

The iftar, hosted by the Turkish Embassy under the coordination of the Religious Services Attache, began with a recitation from the Quran. This year’s event held special significance, coinciding with Russia’s designation of 2024 as the “Year of the Family.” Following the recitation, attendees enjoyed a video presentation emphasizing the importance of family, with Muslim children leading subsequent prayers.

A highlight of the evening was a mini quiz competition about Türkiye and Islam, with winners receiving various gifts. The event served not only as a religious gathering but also as an educational experience for those in attendance.

Ambassador of Türkiye to Moscow Tanju Bilgic addressed the gathering, emphasizing the manifold blessings Ramadan brings into our lives. “This month enhances the spirit of sharing and solidarity among Muslims, reinforcing the bonds of brotherhood and friendship,” he said. Bilgic pointed to the iftar tent as a prime example of this spirit, a project supported by Türkiye and initiated by Ravil Gaynutdin, head of the Council of Muftis of Russia.
