Turkish teen dead after electric bike battery malfunction
Mehmet Gokay Odabas, 19, lost his life after the battery of his electric bike exploded while he was asleep in his room in Sariyer district. The explosion, which occurred during the early hours of Oct. 24, resulted in a fire that filled the home with smoke, leading to Odabas’ fatal poisoning.
Battery explosion ignites fire
On the fateful day, Odabas returned home after a ride on his electric bike and plugged the battery into a charger. Tragically, the battery suddenly exploded in the middle of the night, causing a fire that prompted nearby residents to alert the fire department.
At that time, Odabas was still asleep, and he was caught off guard by the thick smoke, which rendered him unconscious.
Efforts to save young life
Firefighters quickly responded to the scene and managed to rescue Odabas from the burning home. He was then transported to a hospital by medical teams after receiving initial care at the site. Despite a week of intensive treatment, his condition worsened, and he was declared brain dead shortly before his family made the difficult decision to donate his organs.
Organ donation to honor his memory
Mehmet Gokay Odabas organs were donated by his family, reflecting their desire to help others in the wake of this tragedy. He was laid to rest in his hometown of Ordu, leaving behind a legacy of compassion even in the face of untimely loss.
